IVRIKAL’s Mission

Holistic solution to teaching Hebrew as a second language

IVRIKAL is an initiative that grew out of a desire to help teachers who wish to integrate authentic material in their Hebrew class.
We offer authentic content and 21st century learning assignments in a way that enables teachers to integrate the materials into an existing program or to build a new program based on the conceptual continuum in which the topics appear in the themes.

Our Themes 02

Our Themes

Themes are sub-units of teaching material

IVRIKAL’s themes are sub-units of core-topic content which present authentic, up-to-date learning material.

Each theme is presented in three proficiency levels that include various authentic Hebrew and Israeli teaching material: Texts and video clips (including scripts), grammar, vocabulary lists, assignments and games, “can do” lists, links to digital tools, Teachers’ Corner and an optional step-by-step PBL model for the specific theme.

IVRIKAL offers teachers and schools on-going training and consulting services

IVRIKAL offers teachers and schools on-going training and consulting services: Teaching Hebrew as an additional language according to the proficiency approach (21st century methods of teaching) of project-based learning.

Our 21st century method

Teaching and learning Hebrew in a holistic and authentic way.

AUTHENTIC MATERIAL

We provide authentic “real-life” learning material drawn from various communication sources: Israeli media, social networking, advertising and more…

TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION

We help develop students’ initiative, creativity, and knowledge integration skills by using a multimedia teaching approach.

ACTIVE AND CREATIVE LEARNING

We allow teachers and students the flexibility in choosing content, time, and space. In this way teachers can customize the program according to their own preferences and requirements. The process also encourages students to be active learners and to seek opportunities to explore and use Hebrew beyond the classroom.

THEMATIC UNITS

We strengthen teaching and learning experiences by using thematic units. It creates meaningful learning opportunities, allowing integration of projects and engaging students in their own learning goals and process. This structural-flexibility also accommodates the teaching of heterogeneous classes in which students can advance independently within a group setting.

ISRAELI CULTURE

We present teachers and students with learning material that reflects the most current Israeli culture, believing that knowing the Israeli culture contributes to the learning of Hebrew, as well as encouraging a sense of identifying-with and of belonging to Israel.

WORLD LANGUAGE GLOBAL STANDARDS

We follow the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) guidelines which integrate an ACTFL “Can-Do” list with detailed functional elements for Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced levels into each theme.
